It's Expensive to Live in 2026; Bankruptcy Helps

Many of my clients lament that they “have to file bankruptcy,” and they feel like they failed, otherwise they wouldn’t be in debt. That’s not accurate! It’s expensive to live in Ohio in 2026:

  • Rent is high

  • Gas prices are high

  • Utilities are high

  • Groceries break the bank

  • Car insurance has risen a lot since COVID

  • $5 used to buy you a meal, now you need $20

For the majority of Ohioans that are living paycheck-to-paycheck, all it takes is one rainy day to put you behind your bills. And then the late fees, interest rates, etc. continue to drag you down, and suddenly you find yourself under a mountain of debt.

Please don’t think of it as failure; it’s just part of the economy; it’s part of the design of the economy that a certain percentage of people will be forced into filing bankruptcy. It’s how the lenders have designed it in order to maximize their profits.

And the lawmakers understand that as well, which is why you’re able to file bankruptcy at least every 8 years!

Good luck out there!
